Exercising for Type 2 Diabetes Management with Alana Beard

Exercise can decrease your risk for type 2 diabetes and prevent many complications associated with the disease.

For better type 2 diabetes management, see your doctor or GP before starting any exercise program.

Dribble to Stop Diabetes

When I’m not on the basketball court, I like to focus my time on important causes and helping my community. As a WNBA player and a person with a family history of diabetes, I understand the importance of living an active lifestyle. And as a Dribble to Stop Diabetes program ambassador, I am encouraging fans to be more active and to understand their risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

It’s important to know your risk for type 2 diabetes and, if you are at risk, talk to your doctor and get tested. Visit www.dribbletostopdiabetes.com  for more information and to take the risk assessment.

I’m proud to work with the WNBA, Sanofi US and the American Diabetes Association to educate people about their risk for developing type 2 diabetes and to inform the community on how to prevent this disease. It’s all about teamwork, so let’s work together to spread information and educate about diabetes prevention.

As Alana Beard, states it is all about teamwork in a good type 2 diabetes program.  You are the captain of the team, and you assemble the players (your health care team).

Your health care team should include:

1.  Doctor or GP

2.  Eye doctor

3.  Dietician

4.  Certified Diabetes Educator

5.  Dentist.

6.  Pharmacist

7.  Foot doctor

8.  An exercise expert.

9.  Your friends and family.

10.  Your co-workers

As you can see, your type 2 diabetes management health care team is a large one.  And always remember that you are the one that ultimately decides what you eat, how much you exercise, and when or if you take your medications.

Yes, you can base your decisions on the advice of your health care team, but when it comes down the full time type 2 diabetes management, you make the final decisions.
