The first book is Mediterranean Prescription.  It is written and tested by Dr. Angelo Aquista, a well known New York doctor.

LOSE WEIGHT, STAY FIT, AND FEEL GREAT WHILE EATING SOME OF THE MOST DELICIOUS AND HEALTHIEST FOOD ON EARTH.

Renowned for its dazzling beauty and delectable cuisine, the Mediterranean island of Sicily has historically one of the healthiest diets in the world. Recent studies show that this eating style can reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and depression, and that it can even increase fertility rates! Now all the succulent flavors and myriad benefits of Sicilian cooking are yours to savor in the very first weight-loss program that will not only help you effortlessly shed unwanted pounds but will become a prescription for a lifetime of nourishing, palate-pleasing fare.

Created by respected physician Dr. Angelo Acquista, who has successful counseled his patients on weight management for years, The Mediterranean Prescription starts with a two-week weight-loss stage that includes simple, delectable recipes to help you lose eight to ten pounds right away. Still convinced that all diets leave you feeling deprived? Imagine eating Baked Zucchini with Eggplant and Tomatoes, Sweet-and-Sour Red Snapper, Chicken Cacciatore, Pasta Fagioli, and Baked Onions. Dr. Acquista culled his Sicilian mother’s recipe box for the most mouthwatering recipes–plus he includes meals from famous chefs at top Italian restaurants, such as Cipriani and Serafina. If you follow these lifestyle-changing suggestions, you will enjoy

• long-term success: Eat the foods you love and enjoy–bread, pasta, and all your favorite Italian dishes–while adopting healthier eating habits.
• no more addictions: A two-week “tough love” stage helps you kick the habit of sugar, junk food, and preservatives.
• zero deprivation: The Sicilian way of cooking and combining foods means less snacking in between meals, and less temptation to fill up on desserts.
• family-friendly recipes: Children will love and benefit from the dishes as well, so you can share the good eating and the good health.

Plus you’ll find vital information on how being overweight affects each part of your body, including the skin, brain, heart, liver, joints, back, and breasts.

Most people don’t realize that many of their health problems derive from unhealthful weight. Discover the Sicilian secret to a happy life. Capture a pleasurable way of eating that will bring all the blessings and bounty of the Mediterranean to your table, to your life, and to your health!

This book is under $20 and now qualifies for their fast free 2 day shipping.

The second book I recommend is by Dr. Steve Parker.  It has excellent reviews and was written for both type 2 diabetes management and Mediterranean dieter in mind.  It is titled, “Conquer Diabetes and Pre-diabetes: The Carb Mediterranean Diet”.   It is priced under $20.

Dr. Steve Parker (M.D.) has created the world’s first low-carbohydrate Mediterranean diet, designed for people with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. His science-based plan blends the healthy components of the traditional Mediterranean diet with the ease and effectiveness of low-carb eating.

Conquer Diabetes and Prediabetes teaches how to lower blood sugars naturally, reduce or eliminate diabetic medications, and lose excess weight if needed.

Type 2 diabetics and prediabetics have lost the ability to process carbohydrates safely. Carbohydrates have become poisonous for them. Carb toxicity too often leads to numb and painful limbs, impaired vision, kidney failure, amputations, cancer, and premature heart attacks, strokes, and death. What’s the first thing you do when you find you’re being poisoned? You stop taking the poison!

Nutrition experts worldwide agree that the Mediterranean diet is the healthiest way of eating for the general public. It prolongs life and reduces rates of heart attack, stroke, cancer, and dementia. The only problem for diabetics is that it provides too many toxic carbohydrates.

Dr. Parker initially recommends a very-low-carb ketogenic diet for 12 to 18 weeks, then teaches the reader how to gradually add more healthy carbohydrates depending on blood sugar and body weight changes.

The book provides recipes, a week of menus, instruction on exercise, discussion of all available diabetic medications, advice on how to avoid weight gain, lists of delicious doctor-approved foods, 71 scientific references, an annotated bibliography, and an index. All measurements are given both in U.S. customary and metric units.

Initially, I was reluctant to recommend any book that uses a very-low carb ketogenic diet as part of the weight loss program, but I find that Dr. Parker does not want you to continue this diet for any longer than prescribed in the book.  For short term that should be safe for diabetics, but as with any diet program, first consult your primary care doctor or other health care provider.

Both of these lowest price Mediterranean diet gifts are also available in Kindle format.  So stay inside, and complete your gift list online.
